The Vatican Ignores the anti-Western Design of Soviet Strategy

I previously published an exclusive English translation of an FQS article under the translated title: “The Second Vatican Council: A Quiet Revolution in the Church“. Today’s post is an urgent update on that item.

The update is an extract from KGB defector, Anatoliy Golitsyn’s 1995 book, The Perestroika Deception, edited by Soviet analyst, the late Christopher Story. The chapter extract is by Golitsyn; the two footnotes are by Story, the Editor.

The selections in Perestroika Deception are edited versions of Memoranda submitted by Golitsyn to the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) after he defected from the USSR to America.

Golitsyn was born in the Ukraine in 1926. At the age of nineteen, he joined the Communist Party and the KGB, where he studied and served until 1961.

What are Golitsyn’s qualifications to comment on Soviet espionage and the Western churches?

He graduated from the Moscow School of Military Counter-espionage, the counterintelligence faculty of the High Intelligence School, and the University of Marxism-Leninism. In 1959 he graduated with a law degree from a four-year course at the KGB Institute (now the KGB Academy) in Moscow.

In 1952 and early 1953 he was involved with a friend in drawing up a proposal to the Central Committee on the reorganisation of Soviet intelligence.

In connection with this proposal he attended a meeting of the secretariat chaired by Stalin and a meeting of the Presidium chaired by Malenkov and attended by Khrushchev, Brezhnev and Bulganin.

In 1952-53 he worked briefly as head of a section responsible for counter-espionage against the United States.

From 1959 to 1960, he served as a senior analyst in the NATO section of the Information Department of the Soviet intelligence service. He served in Vienna and Helsinki on counterintelligence assignments from 1953 to 1955 and from 1960 to 1961, respectively.

He defected to the United States in December 1961.

Subsequently, his contribution to the national security of leading Western countries was recognised by the award of the United States Government Medal for Distinguished Service.

Secondly, the Vatican should reverse its mistaken support for the renewal of the Communist regimes in the USSR and Eastern Europe. The Vatican ignores the anti-Western design of Soviet strategy. It fails to understand that greater apparent official tolerance of religion in the Soviet Union is accompanied by a secret drive to increase Party and KGB penetration of the Catholic and other churches and to use agents therein for political and strategic purposes inside and outside the Soviet Union.

As part of the programme to destroy religion from within, the KGB, in the late 1950s, started sending dedicated young Communists to ecclesiastical academies and seminaries to train them as future church leaders. These young Communists joined the Church, not at the call of their consciences to serve God, but at the call of the Communist Party in order to serve that Party and to implement its general line in the struggle against religion43.

In the present phase, secret agents in the Catholic and other churches are being used to implement Communist strategy44. When they achieve their Communist world victory, they will use mass withdrawal of their agents to disrupt and destroy the churches. Never in its history since Nero has Christianity faced such a threat of possible destruction. The dictum of the late Pope Pius XII about the incompatibility of Communism and religion is as correct as ever. The Vatican should reaffirm this dictum and should use its influence and its ‘divisions’ to defend Western values from the new Communist assault.

The Vatican should also re-examine the possible assassination of the predecessor of the present Pope. Recent books have disposed of some conspiracy theories but have not explored the possibility of KGB involvement. The question should still be asked and answered: was the late Pope assassinated? If so, who was behind the assassination? Was it the KGB? If so, what were the KGB’s motives?

Thus religion must be destroyed, and the worship of God (above Man) replaced by the worship of Man — to “help Man establish his home on earth”.

Malachi Martin elaborates: The professional counter-intelligence experts in the Party-State of the Soviet Union [were] the first officially to recognise the truth of Gramsci’s prediction that in following the Leninist and Stalinist policy of fomenting violent revolution abroad, they could not create the proletarian revolution in the minds and lives of capitalist populations… And they were the first to understand that, in Gramsci’s blueprint, they had stumbled onto the counter-intelligence formula par excellence. They knew that he had provided the Soviets [with]… the most far-reaching exercise of deception ever executed by the Party-State, an exercise already perfectly fitted to the international structure Lenin had created”.

It is important to underscore the fact that Gorbachev, as Golitsyn explains, was the executor, not the originator, of the strategy and this key dimension of it.

Golitsyn and Story published those words in 1995. Eighteen years earlier, in the January 1973 (Vol. 5, No. 3) issue of Straight Talk! (formerly published by the Edmund Burke Society, but now the journal of the Western Guard edited by Attila Marschalko with Associate Editor Emilio De Bono), Dr. E. R. Fields, writing in “Modernism Wrecking Many Christian Churches By Dr. E. R. Fields” (p. 7), may substantiate that future alert of a KGB operation against the western Churches initiated in the late 1950s.

Field cites reports (beginning in 1965, two years after the start of Vatican Council II) of massive drops in church attendance, both Protestant and Catholic, and collateral financial losses in the collection plate.

He further reports a critical world-wide shortage of Catholic priests, as young men fail to move into the ministry when old priests die or retire. Fields asks, “What is the reason?” and then he says:

“It has been said that one can find more atheists in the pulpits than in any other segment of society. This may be true because far-out leftists have taken control of many seminaries and have brainwashed thousands of ordained ministers with a pro-communist and atheistic outlook.”

Could this be evidence of the world-wide KGB operation Golitsyn and Story refer to?

Furthermore, the Fédération Québécoise de Souche  (FQS), in its 2014 article entitled “Le Concile Vatican II : Une révolution tranquille dans l’Église” (translated into English at 1867 as “The Second Vatican Council: A Quiet Revolution in the Church“, reports a complete change in theology of the Catholic Church under Pope John II as the outcome of the Second Vatican Council.

The way the FQS reports it, this change appears to conform identically to the change demanded by the tenets of Antonio Gramsci, who called for the Marxisation of religion to conquer the west for Communism. Said Gramcsi, quoted in The Perestroika Deception:

Thus religion must be destroyed, and the worship of God (above Man) replaced by the worship of Man — to “help Man establish his home on earth”.

The FQS, in terms that seem to echo Gramcsi, describes the effect upon the Catholic faith of “The Second Vatican Council: A Quiet Revolution in the Church“:

“For example, traditionally, the priest showed his back to the faithful during the ceremony, everyone being turned towards God to pay homage to Him and to pray to Him. Since Vatican II, the priest turns his back to God and faces the congregation.

According to Jerome Bourbon of the Rivarol weekly, the [Second Vatican] Council introduced a new manner of being situated with respect to God. Claiming that man had changed, the Fathers of the Council deduced from this that the relationship of man with God also had to be changed, passing from theocentrism to anthropocentrism. A radical inversion of objects: religion being no longer in the service of God, but in the service of humanity. “Man is the only creature of God created for itself” and “man is the center and the summit of all things”. Such is the doctrine instituted by the constitution Gaudium et Spes  concluded by the Council.

Paul VI, in his confusing closing speech to Vatican II, went as far as saying:

“The religion of the God who became man has met the religion (for such it is) of man who makes himself God. […] we, too, in fact, we more than any others, honor mankind.”

If man were to now be regarded as the end and the summit of all, obviously the entirety of Catholic theology had to be rethought. The conciliar Church is defined as a means, an institution (among many others), a sign in the service of man. It is the famous theory of the sacramental Church.

John Paul II will be able to thus say that “the Church revealed man to himself”, or that “man is the way of the Church”. If such is the case, it is understood that the liturgy has then as its objective to celebrate humanity, the subject of the sacred rite and of the priesthood. Thus the altar is turned towards the assembly of the faithful whose priest is merely the master of ceremonies, the new Mass being not hierarchical, but democratic.
